We have each wanted to serve a couples mission for many years. Circumstances prevented that from occurring in the way that we originally thought. We have learned throughout our lives though that when a door closes another one opens.
In 2010 and 2011 we lost our spouses of many years to death and it appeared that the opportunity to serve in that way was lost.
We were not really looking and when we ran into each other in the Salt Lake Airport in Dec 2011 we had no concept of where that encounter would lead. We started dating in April 2012. We realized early in our relationship that it was right and that one of the reasons we were placed in each others' paths (and hearts) was that we were capable of serving together and attempting to do good in the world.

We were married in October 2012 and started our mission application process about a year later in the fall of 2013. We opened our call on March 7, 2014 after gathering guesses of where we would be going from the guests gathered in our home and on the phone. We were surprised and excited to read that we would be serving in the Romania / Moldova Mission beginning September 1. The months since that time have been filled with preparation including learning Romanian. The time has flown and we will be flying to Provo, Utah for the final language and mission training on August 26.
