We want to share our amazing weekend. Saturday afternoon we attended the baptism of two outstanding young men. We were excited because we had met one of them the first full day we were here at the Western Day activity. He was kind and helped us with our faltering Romanian. He had been sitting by himself and we felt impressed to go sit with him and he rewarded us with some good language tips.
Immediately after the baptism we hosted dinner at our apartment with the sister missionaries and a neat Chinese family they have been teaching. We really enjoyed meeting Bob, Mary and their son Hans, who we call little Bob. The missionaries wanted to serve an “American meal.” The best we could come up with was hamburgers, chips and ice cream. It turned out well considering that hamburger here is not quite the same as we have had in the past. We enjoyed a short movie and learned they live very close to us.

We left early Sunday morning to begin our journey to Câmpulung. We rode Metro 30 minutes to the bus station, then the bus for 90 minutes. A short taxi ride brought us to the church in Pitești where we enjoyed the service there, at least until they asked us to speak! Jacque was very courageous in sharing some new material; I stuck to what I had previously learned. After church there, we joined the local missionaries for a 90 minute “maxi-taxi” ride to Câmpulung. This was our first maxi-taxi ride, and it was all we had heard – crowded and the driver was smoking, collecting fares and adjusting the music while driving a very narrow road. The city is very quaint and beautiful. Picture a breathtaking Fall scene with small brightly colored cottages.
After a 20 minute walk we met in the home of a delightful family and held a brief meeting. Again we were asked to share our feelings. There was an amazing spirit there. It was tough to leave, but we needed to catch the last bus home. We got home late but very grateful to have these experiences.
Today we will celebrate our second wedding anniversary with a walk by a lake and dinner at an Italian restaurant. We are very blessed to be here and have each other. We were just visited by the most amazing missionaries in the world with some flowers and treats. What a delightful surprise!
